The Redding Elementary School Philosophy

Our goal at R.E.S. is to provide educational programs which consider the uniqueness of each student’s developmental experiences, learning style and personality so that we as educators can help students discover the best within themselves.

With that purpose as our guide, we seek to create a community of learners encompassing students, teachers, support staff, administrators and parents.  Contributions from each group are essential components of an environment in which learners and learning flourish.

It is understood that children attempt, practice and acquire instructed and experienced skills when they are developmentally ready and that each child has his/her own timetable for this development.

At RES we strive to create rich and vibrant classroom environments where children question, discover and learn.  We provide children with a wide range of materials and tools for the exploration of new concepts and the practice of others.  We teach children strategies of learning as well as specific content.  We want children to know how to solve problems, think critically, use resources and ask questions.  We provide multiple opportunities for individualized teaching and learning in conjunction with cooperative and whole group instruction.  Children at RES are active participants in the learning process as is evidenced in every classroom.  It is our goal to provide a challenging, dynamic and enriching education that cultivates the unique talents of each student and fosters personal integrity, intellectual curiosity, individual well-being and civic responsibility.

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.
